WELCOME. The Houston SPCA was founded in 1924 and remains Houston's oldest and largest Animal Protection Organization. Completely privately funded, we are proud to serve more than 100,000 animals annually. We remain committed to our mission to promote commitment to and respect for all animals and to free them from suffering, abuse and exploitation. Adopt, donate, volunteer, report cruelty: Won't you help us be the voice of the voiceless?

THE HOUSTON SPCA HELPS RESCUED ANIMALS FIND HOMES

The Houston SPCA has been awarded custody of the companion animals rescued from a property in Alvin earlier this month.  The animals include approximately 80 canines and some guinea pigs that are now in the process of receiving their medical and behavioral evaluations from the Houston SPCA Veterinary staff.  The majority of the canines in this group are dachshunds; however, there are other breeds which also vary in age and size.

Beginning Sunday afternoon on January 31st, some of these animals may be available for adoption.  As these animals become available for adoption in the next few weeks, they can also be viewed online.  Anyone interested in adopting an animal from the Houston SPCA must become an approved adopter and may do so in person in the shelter’s adoption lobby.  The Houston SPCA is open 7 days at week from Noon to 8pm and located at 900 Portway Drive, Houston, Texas 77024.

Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti (ARCH) Formed

The world is responding to the disaster in Haiti, and people around the world are coming together to help in any way they can. The animal victims of this disaster will desperately need help too, and animal welfare groups are joining forces to come to their aid.  Our international partner, the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), together with the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), will be working on the ground to help the animals in Haiti. They have developed the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti (ARCH) to assist in the response efforts, and all animal welfare organizations are invited to join the ARCH and direct their financial support to the coalition. The relief teams will be working out of a mobile clinic, which has been donated by the Antigua and Barbuda Humane Society. WSPA and IFAW have pledged funds to fully outfit this mobile clinic, and it will be shipped from Antigua to WSPA member society, Sociedad Dominicana Para la Protección de Animales (SODOPRECA), in the Dominican Republic for them to drive across the border into Haiti.  We will continue to provide updates to our homepage as they become available.  WSPA will continue to provide up-to-the-minute reports from the field through their Animals in Disaster Blog.
