Shelter Tours
The Houston SPCA also offers tours of our state-of-the-art facility at 900 Portway Drive. Tours are educational, as well as interesting for children. A tour provides children an opportunity to learn about the services the Houston SPCA offers, as well as see firsthand the hundreds of animals in need of permanent, loving homes. Shelter tours are FREE and available by appointment. For groups of children 1st grade and up, the tour begins with an educational lesson discussing the Houston SPCA's programs and services and some basic pet care tips. Students third grade and up will also learn about the pet overpopulation problem with spaying and neutering as the solution. Then the behind-the-scenes, guided tour of the shelter is given, which includes viewing the adoptable animals in our care, including domestic and farm animals. For groups, tours usually take about 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete. To schedule a free tour, please call (713) 869-7722, ext. 143 or email the Humane Education department. Tours are generally available Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. until 5p.m. A Houston SPCA shelter tour makes a great field trip for any group or school class! |
