The first half of 2012 was the warmest on record in the United States and, despite the recent rains here in Houston, the scorching temperatures are taking their toll on people and their pets. Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston and the Houston SPCA desperately need donations of canned and dry dog and cat food to help homebound seniors feed their pets and survive the summer.

“The aniMeals on Wheels program, founded six years ago by Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston, is important because it helps keep pets in the senior’s home,” said Patricia Mercer, Houston SPCA President. “Limited income and mobility often force elderly pet owners to make the difficult choice of feeding themselves or feeding their pets. aniMeals on Wheels ensures that seniors can keep and provide the very best for their beloved friends!”
Andrea Fineman, Communications Manager for Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston said 200 volunteers deliver more than 7,000 lbs. of donated dog and cat food to more than 450 seniors and 1,000 pets each month. “Every gift is a gift from the heart,” she said, “and helps a very vulnerable segment of our population keep their four-legged companions in their lives.”
