The Houston SPCA recently came into possession of several Doves that are now looking for their new home. You may not have known this, but Doves can make great pets. They are very gentle natured birds. They do not bite or screech or cause any harm to other creatures. Doves are mellow and are very lovable & cuddly creatures that enjoy personal attention and petting.
When adopting a Dove, the new bird should be placed in a warm, quiet area with fresh food and water. Let your new pet get used to its new surroundings before subjecting the dove to handling, noise or stress. They do require a slightly larger cage. The dove must be able to spread its wings fully in the width and height of the cage from the flat perch.
