She is deaf, partially blind and has canine heartworm
disease. But she is one pint-sized pup
with an Olympic spirit and the heart of a champion. Her name is GOLDie and her love of life will win your heart.
Some people might consider GOLDie’s issues disabling, debilitating and overwhelming. The truth is that GOLDie has no idea that she has any special needs. She wags her tail, loves to be held, and
truly enjoys human companionship. She’s
just a special dog with a heart of GOLD looking for family to love.
Everyone at the Houston SPCA was immediately charmed by the
sweet, docile dog who is trusting, kind, sensitive and loving. According to Dr. Becky Rhoades, a dog with
special needs is not that much different from any other dog. “You will need to
be her guide, especially when she is out of her normal home environment,”
Rhoades said. Rhoades says with patience
and gentle training, she will be able to go for walks outside but she will
always need to on leash outside of her own home or fenced yard.
GOLDie’s
heartworm disease will be treated at no cost to her new family. Beginning, Saturday, August 4th at
10 am, if you would like meet GOLDie
and see if she is the one for you, please come into the Houston SPCA Adoptions
Lobby, 900 Portway Drive, and ask to meet with Dr. Becky Rhoades or Rachel
Williams. The Houston SPCA is open
Monday through Friday, from 11 am to 7 pm, and Saturday and Sunday, from 10 am
to 6 pm.
